How it works
What it actually does
Ozempic is semaglutide — the same GLP-1 mechanism described on the Wegovy page: sustained fullness signalling and slowed stomach emptying. The difference is regulatory, not chemical: Ozempic's approved indication is type 2 diabetes, at doses up to 2mg weekly.

It won't be prescribed if
- Anyone with a personal or family history of medullary thyroid carcinoma, or MEN 2 syndrome — this is a hard stop
- Pregnancy, trying to become pregnant, or breastfeeding
- A history of pancreatitis, without careful provider review
- Type 1 diabetes, gastroparesis, or an active eating disorder without in-person care

The same profile as other semaglutide products: nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea, constipation, reflux — worst near dose increases. Serious but uncommon: pancreatitis, gallbladder disease, kidney injury from dehydration, and the class boxed warning on thyroid C-cell tumors in rodents.
